Flight of Teas! February 4th & 5th

Happy February!! As we transcend into the month of love, our hearts race for the flight of teas that are to come! This weekend, we will be serving Taiping Houkui, Meijawu Lung Ching, and Hunan Aged Green Cake.

This Chinese green, which leaves are stretched out in a special process, reigns from the Yellow Mountains of the Anhui Province. Taiping is full of theanine (an amino acid) giving it more body than other green teas. Taiping Houkui may be light but is packed with vegetal flavors!

Being made in Late March, Meijiawu Lung Ching is an excellent Chinese green that creates a light brew with a nut-like flavor and aroma. This tea is a very commonly enjoyed green with its non-overpowering tastes.

Hunan Aged Green Cake is a 7 year compressed tea from China. Though it does look like a Puerh and goes through the same processes like fermentation, the Aged Green Cake does not develop those earthy notes that we know and love. It actually develops a nice mellow, fruity aroma and flavor that is unique and fantastic. Perfect to try for the first time or a new take for the Puerh fan, Hunan Aged Green Cake can be re-brewed several times.

Flight of Teas! January 28th & 29th

Hello again, tea drinkers! This weekend we will be enjoying a flight of Chinese greens: Jin Shan, Huang Shao Mao Feng, & Hunan Mao Jian.

Jin Shan Green, a leaf grown on high elevations in the northern Aheijiang Province, carries a lighter brew with vegetal notes. The leaves themselves are quite a character, being tiny green and white curls with a kiss of frizz. Jin Shan is a good choice for those who are just entering the world of green teas, due to its subtle but acknowledgeable aroma and brew.

This Chinese green explains its story right in its name: Huang Shan Mao Feng (Yellow Mountains, Spring tea.) Though it is a spring tea, it is actually picked a little later in the season. With aromas that are vegetal and slightly floral, Huang Shan Mao Feng has a flavor that is reminiscent of toasted pecans.

Hunan Mao Jian was discovered in an organic tea garden in the Hunan province, when on the hunt for a tea that wasn't too similar to Gunpowder Green or Chun Mee. This green carries aromas that are stronger than some Chinese greens with a slightly heavier brew. It is picked later in the season, so it is not uncommon for its leaves to be darker with its vegetal, almost "soy sauce-like" aroma.

Flight of Teas! January 21st & 22nd

This weekend, indulge in our flight of teas from China. We will be serving Hunan Yellow Sprouts, Lung Ching, and Gunpowder Green at the tasting bar.

This yellow tea has a brew that is light with a hint of fruit flavor to it. Hunan Yellow Sprout develops these delicate but delicious flavors during its yellowing process, where the leaves are slowly oxidized. Though it brews a light body, Hunan Yellow Sprout is appreciated by all kinds of tea drinkers.

Being one of China's most famous green teas, Lung Ching creates a brew that is light, sweet, and carries nutty aromas. Being made in the early spring, this green tea is perfect for an admirer of a traditional green tea, but does not always enjoy too intense of a flavor.

Gunpowder Green tea is a traditional Chinese tea that gets its name from the rolled leaf balls that mimic a gun pellet. Also, the tea brews a slightly smoky flavor. Gunpowder is the perfect tea for this time of year;  indulge in this lighter smoky brew on a foggy, cloudy January day or even just enjoy a cup at breakfast!

Flight of Teas! January 14th & 15th

Hello all! This weekend we are recognizing the Chinese New Year which falls on January 23rd. Being the year of the dragon, we are celebrating by serving a flight of exquisite Chinese Greens: Anji Baicha, Snow Dragon, and Bi Lo Chun.

This Chinese green is loaded with flavors of asparagus and citrus notes. Anji Baicha not only is a delight on the palette, but an inspiration for some. This green was the tea to get Emeric Harney interested in the family business, when discovered on a buying trip! This tea has less chlorophyll than others, while some of the first leaves actually hold a white color.

Not only are the leaves themselves a beauty, Snow Dragon is a Chinese green that produces a beautiful brew that is light, ethereal, and sweet. This tea was the first picked of the new season, and is a perfect match for the Chinese New Year!

This green tea has frizzy white and green curls that are handmade on Dongting Island, in the Jiansu Province. Also a lighter green, Bi Lo Chun has a delightful floral aroma and delicate brew.

Flight of Teas! January 7th & 8th

Hello all and Happy New Year! It's a fresh start for a new year of opportunities, and we are celebrating the first weekend of 2012 with a light, crisp flight! Jasmine Silver Needle, Wenshan Baozhong, & Verveine.

This white tea, stretched out like Chinese Silver Needle, is flavored with exquisite jasmine flowers. Jasmine Silver Needle is one of our lighter jasmine teas but does not disappoint. With just a kiss of jasmine with smooth white tea, this caffeinated floral is very enjoyable.

Wenshan Baozhong is an oolong that's hometown is all about teas: PingLing, Taiwan. Having tea museums, teapots on streetlights, and statues of tea pickers, PingLing also has a nature preserve that we feel we can taste through our Wenshan. A lighter brew with floral notes in the aroma and the body, this oolong is an excellent choice for any oolong lover, or beginner.

Importing only the best, our Verveine leaf produces quite an unexpected strong brew of fresh lemon flavors. Also known as Lemon Verbena, this french leaf is the perfect herbal for decompressing and relaxation. Need a little more kick? We also carry our Mint Verbena, a match made in herbal heaven of peppermint and verveine!

Flight of Teas! December 30th & 31st

Hello all! We hope you tea fans had a fabulous holiday this past weekend. As we say goodbye to 2011 and welcome the new year, this weekend we will be serving a flight of just good ol' enjoyable teas: White Fairy, Nahorhabi Full, & Yerba Mate.

Picked from the Hunan Province, White Fairy is a white tea with big green twists, creating a slightly sweet but stronger brew. Quickly becoming a favorite amongst the staff of our white tea selection, this delicate but highly caffeinated tea will become a favorite of yours too!

This full-leaf Assam, picked from the estate of Nahorhabi holds a toasted malt flavor with aromas of a cooked honey. Lighter in body than our broken leaf Assams, Nahorhabi Full is an enjoyable Indian tea that is for those who enjoy the bite of Assams, but a little less astringency.

Yerba Mate is a South American beverage, holding a tradition of being enjoyed by gauchos (cowboys) in Argentina. The twist? Though Mate is in the herbal family, it does still contain caffeine! Similar in flavor to a green, this tisane has a grassy and vegetal aroma and taste.

*Our flight is being served on Friday and Saturday. We are closed for New Years Day! See everyone in 2012!
