Flight of Teas! December 30th & 31st

Hello all! We hope you tea fans had a fabulous holiday this past weekend. As we say goodbye to 2011 and welcome the new year, this weekend we will be serving a flight of just good ol' enjoyable teas: White Fairy, Nahorhabi Full, & Yerba Mate.

Picked from the Hunan Province, White Fairy is a white tea with big green twists, creating a slightly sweet but stronger brew. Quickly becoming a favorite amongst the staff of our white tea selection, this delicate but highly caffeinated tea will become a favorite of yours too!

This full-leaf Assam, picked from the estate of Nahorhabi holds a toasted malt flavor with aromas of a cooked honey. Lighter in body than our broken leaf Assams, Nahorhabi Full is an enjoyable Indian tea that is for those who enjoy the bite of Assams, but a little less astringency.

Yerba Mate is a South American beverage, holding a tradition of being enjoyed by gauchos (cowboys) in Argentina. The twist? Though Mate is in the herbal family, it does still contain caffeine! Similar in flavor to a green, this tisane has a grassy and vegetal aroma and taste.

*Our flight is being served on Friday and Saturday. We are closed for New Years Day! See everyone in 2012!

With its sweet and nutty flavor, White Christmas can put anyone in the holiday spirit. Our hand-picked white tea is blended with vanilla, almonds, cardamon and accented with white chamomile flowers. A must-have for Christmas morning, this blend will not only compliment any Christmas cookie, but also take your taste buds on a sleigh ride!

Introducing our brand new Soho Blend! As we rush around trying to find the perfect gift for that special someone, take a moment to unwind with some caffeine-free Herbal Holiday. This blend of rooibos, almond, spices, and notes of citrus can be enjoyed any evening without taking the flavor out of the holidays. A play on one of our classic favorites, Holiday black tea, not only will this tea be a hit this season, but also Santa's little secret to staying relaxed!

Flight of Seasonal Teas! December 17th & 18th!

The holidays are just around the corner and we here at the shop will tea ready! This weekend, as you find that last perfect present, come stop by the shop and taste our seasonal teas! White Christmas, Holiday, & Hot Cinnamon Spice.

This black tea blend of citrus, spice, and almond is a classic that can't be forgotten this season. Holiday tea reminds us of our mother's baking for Santa Claus and can even be reminiscent of the holiday wreaths hung on the fire mantle. Sweet with a hint of spice, Holiday tea is the perfect gift for those you love, or even a sweet treat for yourself.

Our top selling black tea blend, Hot Cinnamon Spice, is a strongly-flavored black tea that will awaken your taste buds! With three types of cinnamon, clove, and orange peel, this sweet brew will convince even the grumpiest scrooge that there is actual sugar in it! (but it is sugar-free, don't worry.) Available in any form to purchase, Hot Cinnamon Spice is #1 for a reason; come taste why.

Flight of Teas! December 10th & 11th

Hello all! This weekend we are recognizing some of our unique blends that are seasonal, yet traditional! Come try our Winter White Earl Grey, Chocolate Mint, & Herbal Hot Cinnamon.

Winter White Earl Grey is based with our Mutan White tea, blended with lemony bergamot for a refreshing twist on the classic Earl Grey. This blend is perfect for the holiday season or to partake in any time of the year for that breakfast tea taste, yet light-bodied brew. Packed with antioxidants and caffeine, Winter White Earl Grey is not only delightful but beneficial as well.

Known as an after-dinner delight, our Chocolate Mint tea is the perfect dessert tea to serve this holiday season. Black tea based, this blend is a combination of chocolate flavoring and our peppermint leaves. Sweet yet refreshing, Chocolate Mint is a great way to curb that craving for an extra piece of dessert at the table or to simply just indulge in.

A play on our number one seller, Hot Cinnamon Spice, Herbal Hot Cinnamon is a Rooibos-based blend with three types of cinnamon. With no caffeine naturally, Herbal Hot Cinnamon is a great indulgence for those who don't want the caffeine, but still crave good flavor! Heavy in taste but a medium-bodied brew, this herbal is perfect for any cold night at home or  for an after-dinner delight.

Flight of Teas! December 3rd & 4th!

As we transcend from fall to winter, saying goodbye to November and giving warm welcomes to December and the holiday season, we are serving a flight of roasted-flavor teas to celebrate. Reminiscent of Grandmother's fire place or roasting chestnuts, our flight of teas will warm any cold soul this season! We will be serving Hojicha, Lapsang #1, & Soba Roasted Buckwheat.

Being a favorite beverage in Japan, Hojicha is roasted tea stalks that create a smooth,  light-bodied brew. Hojicha's toasty flavors are complimenting of any palatte, and one could even consider this to replace their morning beverage.

An early season Lapsang Souchong, Lapsang #1 is one of our newest editions to our tea collection. The leaves themselves are smoked over pine fires (a traditional way of creating Lapsang Souchong,) and come from the Wuyi Mountains. A lighter smoky flavor than the typical Lapsang, #1 is an excellent black tea, especially for this time of year.

Soba Roasted Buckwheat is an herbal that goes against the grain (no pun intended!) With its lovely toasty flavor and hint of sweetness at the end of each sip, this caffeine-free beverage is not only unique but a flavor that many enjoy, like Brigitte Harney!

It's the weekend where tea-aholics meet shopaholics! Post Black Friday, we are celebrating the official start of the holiday season with our classic favorites, alongside a brand new blend! This weekend, indulge in our White Christmas, Holiday, and *new* SoHo Blend!

This black tea blend of citrus, spice, and almond is a classic that can't be forgotten this season. Holiday tea reminds us of our mother's baking for Santa Claus and can even be reminiscent of the holiday wreaths hung on the fire mantle. Flight of Teas! November 19th & 20th!

Attention tea drinkers! This weekend we are featuring a flight of teas that will entice your taste buds! We will be serving Li Shan, Kagoshima, and Hao Ya "A."

Being one of Taiwan's highest mountain teas, Li Shan is an oolong that battles colder climates with snow and mists. Because of this, the brew has an aroma that is creamy and vegetal with delicate flavors of honey. Not only is Li Shan light and refreshing, its leaves can also be re-steeped, for multiple, enjoyable brews!

One of the top Sencha's from southern Japan, Kagoshima has a mouth-filling flavor that is vegetal, sweet, and bitter. Its brew almost resembles a yellow color, while the tea itself  is light. For green tea lovers and newcomers, Kagoshima will definitely spark the palette!

Hao Ya 'A' is the one of our most intense Chinese Keemun teas, filled with toasty flavors and notes of chocolate. Not too heavy in body, this Keemun is the perfect black tea to start your morning or enjoy in the afternoon. A trip to the city of Keemun was a highlight of Mike Harney's trip, as he was there for the start of the Hao Ya 'A' season.

Flight of New Teas! November 12th & 13th

This weekend we are introducing some exquisite teas at the tasting bar! Our flight this weekend welcomes our new Singbulli Oolong Darjeeling, Satisphur Broken Assam, & Guayusa.

In the Singbulli estate, located way up high in the hills of Darjeeling, comes an experiment tea that is rather unique! Light in body, Singbulli Oolong Darjeeling carries aroma and has toasty flavors with stoned fruit undertones.

Coming from a garden we rarely get to see (due to production mostly heading to Japan,) comes a dark tea that is rich in honey and malt flavor from Satisphur (northeastern Assam.) Satisphur Broken Assam is one of our newest teas, having a nice kick in briskness and body.

A traditional Ecuadorean beverage, Guayusa is like Yerba Mate, containing many antioxidants and levels of caffeine, though not technically a "tea." Recently introduced to the United States, this South American brew holds a nice grainy and vegetal flavor.

Flight of Green Teas! November 5th & 6th

Even though everyone is seeing white from the snowstorm that passed last Saturday, here at the shop we are seeing green! Come by this weekend to try our Green Tea Flight: Taiping Houkui, Anji Baicha, and Matsuda's Sencha.

Made in the Yellow mountains of the Anhui Province, Taiping Houkui goes through a special process that actually stretches its leaves out. The leaves, bright with a green color have a heavier body than other greens due to its level of Theanine (an amino acid.)

Anji Baicha is booming with flavors of asparagus and citrus notes. This tea is intriguing because the word "Baicha" refers to a special tea plant to make this tea, and the first couple of leaves are whiter than the norm. While there may be less chlorophyll in the younger leaves, this Chinese green from Zhejiang holds a strong green flavor!

Being Mike Harney's favorite Japanese tea, Matsuda's Sencha will not disappoint anyone's taste buds.  With an intense kick of vegetal and grassy, even the aristocrats of Japan enjoy this specific Sencha.

Flight of Sweet Teas! October 29th & 30th!

Hello again tea drinkers! Hope you are all staying warm and drinking lots of tea during these cold days! On the eve weekend of Halloween, we are saying adiéu to October with a flight of teas your palette will love: Green Hot Cinnamon, Apple Cinnamon, & Thai Rooibos.

This green tea is a version of our number one seller, Hot Cinnamon Spice. Green Hot Cinnamon is a blend of Chinese green teas and three types of cinnamon. Though it is lighter in body, Green Hot Cinnamon still delivers that kick of spice many have grown to obsess over with our cinnamon teas!

Created by our shop's very own Emeric Harney, Apple Cinnamon has flavors that transport you to the crisp season of Fall in New England. A perfect combination of sweet and spicy, Apple Cinnamon is the tea to brew during this time of year.

One of our newest teas, Thai Rooibos is an herbal blend that isn't necessarily meant for calming down. With a combination of cinnamon, ginger, lemongrass, and coconut, this non-caffeinated delight has a sweet cinnamon aroma and a flavor somewhat reminiscent of our famous Bangkok tea.

Flight of Teas October 22nd & 23rd!

Hello all tea fans! This weekend have your palette indulge in a mix of toasty and fruity with our flight of teas! Formosa, Fanciest Formosa, and our *new* Fruits d'Alsace!

Formosa Oolong is a brown Taiwanese oolong that has been enjoyed by many generations. Though the tea itself may have a lot of stems, the toasty flavor can't be ignored when drinking this tea.

A defensive tea, Fanciest Formosa 's leaves actually produce a compound that protects itself from attack! The great part of it is, this compound is peachy and flavorful, making this tea not only tough but delicious. Said to be of the most preferred Oolongs of the bunch, Fanciest Formosa will not disappoint in aroma and flavor.

One of our newest teas, Fruits d' Alsace, is a dessert tea inspired by Chef Jean Joho, who specializes in Alsatian cuisine. With smooth and rich flavors of the fruit teas of that region in France (plums, apricots, and cherries) this tea not only is aromatic but also très bonbon!

Flight of Teas! October 15th & 16th

Hello tea drinkers! This weekend our tasting bar is getting a toasted twist! We are featuring a flight of teas that have a common toasty, smoky flavor: Hojicha, Gunpowder Green, and our new Lapsang #1.

A favorite beverage in Japan, Hojicha is a good alternative to your morning routine drink! Its roasted tea stalks leave an aromatic roasted flavor along with a fulfilling taste.

Gunpowder Green comes from the Zhejiang Province in China. The leaves are rolled into balls that are leaden in color, looking just like gun pellets! Having a slight smoky flavor, Gunpowder Green is an enjoyable tea, especially this time of year!

One of our newer teas, Lapsang #1, is an early season Lapsang Souchong that has a sweeter taste than the original. It is still smoked in the traditional way over pine fires in the Wuyi Mountains, and is a definite must have for tea lovers!

Flight of Teas! October 8th & 9th

Listen up tea lovers, this weekend we are sampling an amazing flight of Oolong teas!
Ti Quan Yin, Fenghuang Shuixan, & Wuyi Cassia.

Ti Quan Yin is a lightly oxidized oolong that comes from Anxi in the Fujian Province of China. This tea holds wonderful floral notes, with hints of fruit as well. Moderately priced, Ti Quan Yin's rolled green leaves can be re-steeped several times! Enjoy this tea for an "oolong" time!

This oolong has large brown leaves that are twisted with hints of russet. Fenghuang Shuixian has an intense peach flavor with a hint of spice and has become one of the most recommended Oolongs at the shop!

Wuyi Cassia, a cliff tea (Yancha) oolong grows in the Wu Yi mountains in the Northern Fujian province. Cassia translates to cinnamon, but don't be fooled  by the name! With the oolong's tight stripe shape and black bloom color, the brewed tea, itself a bright orange color, has toasty, complex flavors.

Flight of Teas! October 1st & 2nd!

Hello tea drinkers! This weekend is the first weekend of October, and we are jet setting our palettes to the beautiful country of France; This weekend's flight is a breakdown of our second top selling tea Paris! Black Currant, Earl Grey, & Vanilla.

John Harney's first flavored tea, Black Currant, is a classic black tea with fruity flavors. With its notes of big berries and fruit, this tea has become a favorite in restaurants all over America. It is the base tea for the blend of Paris.

Our Earl Grey is a combination of teas from India and China, blended with natural oil of Bergamot. The Bergamot gives a looming lemon flavor and aroma, while the black teas are full-bodied. A popular tea, Earl Grey gets its name from becoming a gift from China to the Prime Minister of Britain.

Vanilla Black tea carries a natural sweetness and rich flavor that is irresistible. The enticing aromas bring back memories of baking cookies with your grandmother or that favorite sweet candy you use to buy. A flavor that is commonly loved, anyone will enjoy our Vanilla black tea.

Peaches & Ginger is a black tea blend containing actual pieces of dried ginger and peaches. The spicy notes of ginger compliment the tart yet sweet linger of peach, creating a smooth blend for those who love flavor. This aromatic tea sets the mood for a fall palette; Sweet and spicy.

A blend of red Rooibos, ginger, lemongrass, coconut, and cinnamon Thai Rooibos has been selling fast and has arrived just in time for the fall season! Flight of Teas! September 17th & 18th!

As the sun starts setting earlier and the wind starts getting chillier, we are welcoming the season of Fall with open arms here at the shop! This weekend enjoy our flight of Chai Hara, Cranberry Autumn, and Spiced Plum; A perfect beginning for the arrival of the new season!

Chai Hara is our green tea version of Indian Spice. The cardamom, cinnamon, nutmeg, coriander and ginger blend smoothly to create an enjoyable warm cup of spices. Those who enjoy this blend commonly take it with milk. Whether you want a green kick on your Chai tea or just want to try something different, Chai Hara is spicy tea anyone can enjoy.

Handpicked black teas from India and China, blended with pieces of orange and dried cranberry creates one of our most popular seasonal teas - Cranberry Autumn. With its sweetness but tart taste, this flavorful tea is as strong in aroma as it is in taste. Welcome the weather of Fall with this crisp, delicious classic!

Spiced Plum is an herbal infusion that is heavier than most assume. Blended with sweet cinnamon and plums, sipping this herbal brings feelings of seasonal change and has a presence on the palette one will remember.

Flight of Green Teas! September 10th & 11th!

Though the leaves may be turning from green to red soon, we are still feeling green! This weekend try our exquisite flight of Japanese green teas: Sencha Scent of Mountains, Gyokuro, and Yanagi.

In Kawane, located higher than Kakegawa (where our Ichiban Sencha comes from)  the weather is cooler and foggier, thus Sencha Scent of Mountains grows slowly. Having a delightful vegetal aroma, Scent of Mountains has become a staff favorite, and soon to be yours too!

Being Uji's most famous tea, Gyokuro has been sipped by Japanese aristocrats for years! The tea is shade-grown and has a mouth coating flavor  of steamed spinach and toasted walnuts. A divine green to taste, Gyokuro is a filling, overall enjoyable tea.

When leaves fall out during the rubbing process of making Sencha, they can come out flat or double-folded. These leaves become a tea called Yanagi Green. The taste is less intense, being lighter and lingering less. A good value green, most enjoy Yanagi after meals.
